Cavico Vietnam produces Nickel Hydroxide

Nickel Hydroxide with Ni content of 45%-52% and Electrolytic Nickel Plate with Ni content of 99% produced by Cavico Vietnam have been delivered to domestic and foreign customers.

According to information from Cavico Vietnam, the unit has successfully produced Nickel Hydroxide. Through many inspections, the Vinacontrol analysis and testing center assessed the product as reaching class A, Ni content of 45-52%. Currently, the factory in Laos is producing 200 tons of finished products per month, aiming to reach 500 tons in the first month of 2025.

Regarding the production of pure metal Nickel, the unit put into operation a Nickel plate electrolysis plant early this year. Currently, the product has an average quality of Ni 99%, with a Nickel metal output of over 2 tons per day. The target is to reach 5 tons per day by the end of this year.

In 2025, Cavico will invest in an additional Nickel Hydroxide factory with an output of 20,000 tons per year, supplying the international market. At the same time, it will launch Nickel Sulfate products into the domestic market, aiming to diversify its primary products and add more raw material options for the plating and supporting industries in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Bui Quang Ha, Chairman of Cavico, in the world, mining always goes hand in hand with deep processing. Producing these products is normal for them. However, for Vietnamese enterprises like Cavico, this requires large resources in terms of finance, technology and human resources. “Up until now, when we have brought products to the market and met international standards, we have been able to relieve our long-standing concerns about contributing to the country’s economic development,” said Mr. Ha.

Nickel is a silver-white metal used in many fields such as industry, electric vehicle battery technology… Recently, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) added this substance to the proposed list of “50 important minerals” for the economy, national security and with supply chains that are vulnerable to disruption.

According to the enterprise, in Vietnam, the demand for input materials for the metallurgical, nickel plating, and electric vehicle battery manufacturing industries is currently very large. However, most of these products must be imported from abroad.

Based on the needs of the domestic market, the enterprise has built deep processing factories. The unit owns a large-scale polymetallic mine in Laos, in which the Nickel reserve is up to 400,000 tons. “We have now completely mastered the technology and successfully produced Nickel products that meet international standards. Many major partners such as Trafigura from Switzerland, the world’s largest non-ferrous metal trading company, have come to us for cooperation,” said a company representative.
